‘Red Bull’

This latest painting was taken from a beautiful black bull spotted in a farm field in Cumbria.

The red background shows his colour off really well, but it was also chosen as I had just heard of the decision by the Balearic Islands in Spain to stop bullfighting.

I understand the idea of tradition in countries but I don't understand this cruel 'sport' in the name of tradition.

Reference Photos

In between painting pet portraits to commission or new paintings for my ‘wall’ at a local Antiques & Art Centre, I practice by using reference photos taken on my phone of anything and everything and also by using online photo reference sites which I recently joined.

This ‘Siamese’ is from a photographer called Charlotte White on a Facebook photo ref site for artists and she has beautiful shots of unusual breeds of cats which are always fun to try out.

Something Different…

Life is all about trying something new, different or out of your comfort zone, so with that in mind, I set about painting my first skull.  I was given a Herdwick ram skull as a gift (hmmm?!) from a friend who had found it whilst out on a walk in the Lake District (U.K.).

Herdwick are a tough breed of sheep well known in the Cumbrian fells and their beautiful wool is used in carpets as well as clothing.

The painting was given to the skull presenter for her birthday…..thankfully, she loved it!
