Deerhound

This is the latest addition to my stock of artwork for sale at the Garrion Bridges Art & Antiques Centre.  “Olive”, the deerhound has featured on this blog before and her pastel painting is now waiting for a new owner.  I decided to pop this pastel onto a pre-cut mount, rather than having it framed, to give the buyer the opportunity to select their own frame, so we’ll see if this proves a good idea or not.  If so, I’ll try a few more – back to the drawing board….literally! 🤓

Family Portrait

Following a recent Twitter invitation from Artist & Illustrators magazine for people to send them images of portraits, I was amazed to hear that they would be including my pastel of my nephew Fraser, in their August issue letters page.  It’s quite a small reproduction of the image in the magazine, but I’m SO chuffed that it was chosen!   This is the painting on a slightly larger scale…

‘Deerhound’

Here’s a noble looking breed of dog which I thought might work well in soft pastel, given its fluffy coat.  I spotted this beauty with her owners in a car park in Ulverston and after a brief chat, they very kindly allowed me to take a few shots of her.  She seemed very used to having her photo taken and posed fabulously!  Hope I’ve done her justice.

Portraits Without Fur or Feathers…..just for a change

Every so often it’s nice to have a break from doing the same thing.  Although I really enjoy painting our furry and feathered friends, the two legged variety can be just as interesting and have as much character.  Here are a couple of people portraits which were good fun to do.  One is a face from a random photo who looks as though his day isn’t going particularly well!  The other is someone a little closer to home ❤️

Hamish is Away…

Just found out that ‘Hamish’ has sold at Garrion Bridges….another pic that I was fond of!  Glad he’s gone to a good home though.  Now – back to a commission of a gorgeous German Shepherd which I’m having fun working on…..or maybe a cup of tea and biccy to celebrate my sale first! ☕️🍪

Olive

Met lovely Olive on Sunday as we were leaving Ulverston, Cumbria – having been at the Carnival the day before.  Think her owners said she was a cross between an Irish Wolfhound and a Deerhound? Not sure, but she has the most beautiful eyes.  I’ll probably use pastels in soft ochre, greys and blues.  As usual, I forgot to hand out a business card to the owners as I was concentrating more on getting some good shots of the model! Ah well.
